Text:

    Srednicki:  Quantum Field Theory

Recommended references -- best to read up on each topic in at least two books:

Itzykson & Zuber:  Quantum Field Theory
Peskin and Schroeder: An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory
Ramond: Field Theory: A Modern Primer
    Brown: Quantum Field Theory
Schwartz: Quantum Field Theory and the Standard Model

To get to more advanced topics, nothing compares to:

Coleman: Aspects of Symmetry (especially chapters "Secret Symmetry", "Uses of Instantons", and "Large N")

Grading:

There will be roughly 6-7 problem sets due this quarter.  To get CR for this course you have to have made a serious effort on at least 1/2 of the problems.  Those students requiring a grade, 100% of that grade will be based on performance on these problem sets, with the standard for a 2.0 being the same as for CR:  serious effort on at least 50% of the problems.

You are unlikely to learn the subject unless you do the problems...and you are strongly encouraged to work and discuss together.
