We showed how to describe the interaction of
slow pions with the deuteron into the pionless
effective field theory [14].
We established a new power-counting in this system.
Beane and other collaborators
subsequently used to perform a precise calculation of pion-deuteron scattering
in 
PT in order to extract pion-nucleon scattering lengths.
