DNA Mutations: Marked Motions and Molecular Modifications

Please join us for our sixth HPC seminar this Tuesday, October 11th (Data Science Studio, 3-4pm). Addie Kingsland is a 5th year graduate student in the Department of Chemistry, studying theoretical biophysics with Prof. Lutz Maibaum. They use molecular dynamics simulations to study the physical properties of DNA, including how its structure and dynamics change with oft-deadly base pair mutations. Additionally, they study effects of azobenzene-modifications in DNA, which allow for melting of the polymer with UV radiation rather than temperature.

Fundamental Forces with Big Computers (Talk)

Please join us for our fourth HPC seminar this Thursday, May 19th (Data Science Studio, 2-3pm). I will give an overview of elements of numerical calculations required to solve quantum field theories, focusing on the application of quantum chromodynamics to nuclear physics. I will also sketch how this area will evolve going into the exascale era.

Please join us for our third HPC seminar this Thursday, May 12th (Data Science Studio, 2-3pm). Benjamin Mako-Hill will be sharing with us how he uses HPC for the social sciences. His recent work has been done on a wide range of topics including Wikipedia page protection, e-petitioning, effects of redirects on research etc.

Please join us for our second HPC seminar this Thursday, May 5th (Data Science Studio, 2-3pm). The head of the Institute for Protein Design, David Baker, will be discussing the Design of new proteins using Rosetta. This will be a short talk followed by a Q&A/discussion section.
