Structure of the Proton and Pion

M. Alberg (Seattle University) and E.M. Henley

A very simple statistical model was used by Y.J. Zhang and colleagues [36] to obtain an approximate $\bar{d} - \bar{u}$ asymmetry in the proton. We tested this model and applied it to obtain the valence parton distribution of the pion. Surprisingly (to us), the model works remarkably well. We intend to seek the reason and perhaps examine polarized distributions in the proton.
