The first processing that is done is to correct for beam non-uniformity. You can see the original image in the upper left. It is much stronger in the center. This is because the beam is much stronger in the center (see the picture in the upper right, which contains just the beam). Correcting for this results in the picture in the bottom, which no longer shows any of the beam structure.
