Research Project: Cosmology
UW Mentor(s): Tom Quinn

Q: What are your physics/science interests?
A: I have always loved astronomy as a child and as I came up through school I became more interested in the astrophysics side of things, especially cosmology. I have also been doing high energy detector development for a year and a half (SiD and ECal groups) for the proposed International Linear Collider) and have entertained the idea of pursuing quantum information.

Q: What are your other interests?
A: For the past few years, photography has been really enjoyable and easy to squeeze in with other things. I love hiking, skiing, floating rivers, and all that good stuff. Skiing especially though. I also play a bit of guitar. For almost 5 years I have also been a big part of development work for a small company formed by my friends parents making video based timing systems for track and field. That has been really thrilling to see it grow from a pile of test equipment on a dining table to a medium size business.

Q: What would you like to do after college?
A: I am excited to stay in school for a bit longer and pursue a doctorate in physics, though I haven't yet decided the exact area I would like to go into.

Q: Tell us one strange but interesting fact about yourself.
A: I love the extreme sports I have had the chance to do. I used to ride dirtbikes and ski race in high-school which were both really amazing experiences.
