The REU Program
The University of Washington Physics Research Experiences for
Undergraduates Program was started in 1995. It is aimed at
undergraduate physics majors who have finished their junior
years (though sometimes sophomores and seniors are admitted).
We try to provide each student with an interesting summer
research experience in one of our labs or in a theory group.
The undergraduates work with a professor and usually with
the professor's graduate students and postdocs. Some of the
areas previous students have chosen include astrophysics and
cosmology, atomic physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter
physics, particle physics, and physics education.
The UW is located in Seattle. Northwest summers are very nice,
and the area around Seattle has a lot to offer: the San Juan
Islands in Puget Sound, the Cascade and Olympic Mountains,
and many lakes. So this helps to make the summer even more fun.

A Student's Impression
Nice People I feel the administration and the faculty at the Insitute
for Nuclear Theory are interested in making
each REU student's stay as meaningful and enjoyable as possible.
No pre-Seattle stress Before arrival, all accomodations (food and housing) are arranged and paid for
by the INT. They will even reimburse travel before arrival if a student's funds
are low.
No yucky projects Wick corresponds with each student individually to determine
the most suitable, challenging, and interesting project
and advisor. The Institute for Nuclear Theory works in conjuction with faculty
from the Pysics Education Group, and the Nuclear Physics Labratory, thus there exists
a wide variety of projects as well as advisors to choose from ,
even personalized projects are possible (like mine!).
