The topic of non-conventional fermion pairing is particularly rich in opportunities for interdisciplinary cross-fertilization, because it draws together theoretical ideas from condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, particle physics, and astrophysics. These ideas have direct relevance to experiment. Pairing in quark matter will drastically affect the transport properties that underlie the astrophysical signatures that are sought by astronomers studying neutron stars. Pairing in isospin asymmetric nuclear systems is an important ingredient of the physics of radioactive ion accelerators and the physics of low-density regions of neutron stars. Experimental studies of ultra-cold trapped atoms are creating one of the most successful and fast-growing areas of condensed matter physics. The specific topics that will be addressed include:
All workshop participants must pay a registration fee of $60. There will be a dinner at Ivar's Salmon House on Thursday, September 22, which is included in this fee. If paying by check, please send TWO checks (payable in US dollars, and drawn on a US bank); one for $25 payable to "University of Washington" and the other for $35 to "Ivar's Salmon House." Or, please plan to pay by cash or check immediately upon arrival at the INT. We are unable to accept credit cards; exact change is appreciated. Guests are welcome to attend the dinner for an additional $35 per person; if you wish to bring a guest, you must notify Nancy Tate by September 16, 2005. If you do not wish to attend the dinner, the fee may be reduced to $25. Please note that you MUST notify Nancy Tate that you intend to opt out of the dinner NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 16, 2005. If we do not receive opt-out notification from you before September 16, AND send you confirmation that it was received, you will still be required to pay the full $60 fee. We appreciate your cooperation.
