Workshop on Quarkonium Production in Relativistic
Nuclear Collisions

The 1998 RHIC/INT Workshop on " Quarkonium Production in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions" from May 11-15, 1998, will be organized in conjunction with the INT'98 spring program on "Probes of Dense Matter in Ultrarelativistic Heavy Ion Collisions from March 9 - June 12, 1998.
Quarkonium suppression is a promising signal of the quark-gluon plasma formation in relativistic nuclear collisions. In this respect the "anomaly" observed recently in J/
y production in Pb-Pb collisions by the NA50 Collaboration at CERN SPS is especially intriguing. It is then very important to analyze these results and to examine all possible explanations and far-reaching implications for the physics of relativistic nuclear collisions in particular for the future experiments at RHIC and the LHC.The Workshop will bring together theorists and experimentalists actively working on the subject of quarkonium production in hadronic and nuclear collisions. Talks and discussions will concentrate on the understanding of quarkonium production and suppression mechanisms, theoretical interpretations of current experiments and strategies for future experiments.
The INT'98 spring program, which is arranging the workshop, has proven very popular. Even with a special budget increment and the willingness of some participants to provide their own support, the funds for the program have been exhausted. Thus at this time we cannot offer any support to the participants attending only the workshop or whose stays do not coincide with their visit of the regular INT program. However, if any funds are freed up in the next few months, we will use those to partially support workshop participants
