Visa Advice for International Applicants
If you do not reside in the United States, you will probably need a nonimmigrant "Business and Tourist" visa (B1/B2) to enter the US in order to attend the Summer School. Please consult http://www.aps.org/programs/international/visa/advice-fn.cfm for advice on the visa application process.
If you have applied, have been accepted, plan to register (or registered already) and need an official invitation letter mailed to you (for visa purposes), please contact us at fong@phy.fsu.edu as soon as possible.
Travel and Area Information
NNPSS 2007 participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements for
flying into the
Accommodation and Meals
Participants are expected to arrive on Sunday, July 8th, and leave on
Saturday July 21st. Participants will be housed in apartment-style dormitories
on campus (Ragans Hall). Each apartment accommodates up to four students, each with his/her
own bedroom. Each apartment includes two full bathrooms and a common kitchen and
sitting area. Ethernet connections are available for those traveling with laptop
computers (please bring your own cable). Please note that as of May 01, 2007, housing
services at FSU no longer provides telephone access.
All meals, with the exception of the banquet and a lunch provided on the day
trip to
Saint George Island, will be in the
Fresh Food
Co. located on W Call St., or at the Suwannee Room in the
William
Johnston Building (WJB on campus map).
Lectures
Lectures are going to be held in Room 209 in the New
Classroom Building (HCB on
campus map).
Presentation
All participants at the school will be asked to make a short presentation (15 minutes) describing his/her research. It is preferable that participants bring their talks on USB-drives or compact disks.
Reception
A reception for participants is being planned for the evening of July 8th. It is going to be held in the Keen Building (KEN on campus map), at 6:30 p.m. on the 7th floor.
Scholarship Information
Partial scholarships cover 75% of accommodation from July 8th to July 21st; 75% of meal plans during that time. Partial scholarships also cover transportation and meals for both excursions. Scholarship does not cover travel to or from Tallahassee, or from Tallahassee Regional Airport to the FSU campus. They also do not cover accommodation or meals for early arrival or late departure.
If you receive a partial scholarship, the only fee you are
responsible for paying is a registration fee of $180.00, which covers
registration to the program, all of the meals and accommodation from July 8th
through July 21st, 2007 only.
Excursions
A trip to Wakulla Springs is planned for the afternoon of July 12th.
Buses will
leave the campus at 2:00 p.m., and will return after the banquet. At the Wakulla
Springs State Park, participants will have the opportunity of taking
a boat ride
that explores some of the wildlife at the park. Participants may also take
walks, swim, or simply relax. The banquet will take place at Wakulla
Springs, and will begin at 6:30 p.m.. Please
let us know beforehand if you have any special dietary needs.
There will be a day trip to
Saint George Island, a State Park that is about 2
hours by bus from the FSU campus. The bus will leave from campus around
9:00 a.m., and leave from the beach around 4:00 p.m.. A lunch of cold cuts and
salads will be
provided. Please let us know beforehand if you have any special dietary needs.
Bring swimsuits.

The City of Tallahassee counts with various methods of
transportation.

Eating
Although the registration fee will include all meals from July 8th though July 21st, it is worth mentioning that Tallahassee (specially around campus) has a lot of restaurants to offer. Participants (specially the ones who are staying more than stipulated) are free to explore such restaurants. Shopping
Most of the shopping locations listed here are accessible by taking the city bus (Star Metro).
The Tallahassee Florida Downtown Marketplace is held each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The City of Tallahassee has a wide selection of Museums and Galleries that are worth visiting.
Outdoor Activities
While visiting Tallahassee, you might like engaging in recreational activities such as going to the beach, going to the numerous parks around the area, playing tennis or golf, horseback riding, kayaking, etc.
