INT Workshop INT-12-49W

Orbital Angular Momentum in QCD

February 6 - 17, 2012

OVERVIEW

Orbital angular momentum of partons has emerged as a key concept in hadron structure and the theory of high-momentum transfer processes, posing challenges which cross the boundaries of traditional fields. The purpose of this mini-program is to enable a comprehensive exploration of quark/gluon angular momentum using theoretical and experimental tools. We plan to relate the different theoretical approaches to orbital angular momentum (partonic vs. field-theoretical formulation, lattice QCD, chiral and 1/Nc expansions, models of nucleon structure) and coordinate experimental efforts at different facilities (JLab 6/12 GeV, COMPASS, EIC; RHIC, GSI FAIR, LHC). The program will bring together experts in perturbative QCD and high-momentum transfer processes, nucleon and nuclear structure, lattice QCD, as well as ep and pp scattering experiments. Topics include:
  • Angular momentum in gauge theories and its partonic interpretation
  • Spin structure and angular momentum from lattice QCD
  • Orbital angular momentum and dynamical models of nucleon structure
  • Quark angular momentum in GPDs and exclusive processes
  • Orbital angular momentum in TMDs and semi-inclusive DIS
  • Gluon angular momentum

ORGANIZATION

The first week, 6-10 Feb 2012, is planned mainly as an organized workshop with presentations and discussion sessions. The second week, 13-17 Feb 2012, is mostly intended for topical collaboration, discussions, and informal presentations.

REGISTRATION FEE

There is a registration fee of $50 to attend this workshop. Payment can be accepted in cash or a check drawn on a U.S. bank. Sorry, we cannot accept credit cards.
